This session will review how the ESRD Networks and the Forum of ESRD Networks work to partner with dialysis facilities to promote safety, maximize quality outcomes, and engage people with ESRD. This session will emphasize tools of the Forum to assist dialysis facilities in meeting their quality goals and metrics. A better understanding of the Networks and Forum should help dialysis facilities meet their ongoing challenges in today’s quality driven practice environment.

David Henner, DO

Berkshire Health Systems

Dr. Henner is a Nephrologist, and the Medical Director and Administrator of Dialysis at Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He also serves as the Medical Director and Administrator of Dialysis at BMC South County Dialysis Center, BMC North County Dialysis Center, and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Dialysis Center in Bennington, VT. In addition, Dr. Henner currently serves as the Division Chief of Nephrology at Berkshire Medical Center. He completed his Nephrology Fellowship in 2003 at New York University (NYU). Prior to that, he graduated from Medical School at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 1998 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA in 2001.

Dr. Henner currently serves as the ESRD Divisional Board Chair for the IPRO ESRD Network of New England (Network 1), and previously served as Medical Review Board Chair. Dr. Henner also currently serves as the President- Elect of the National Forum of ESRD Networks, and previously served as the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) Chair for the Forum. He currently resides in Pittsfield, MA with his wife Nadine and 3 children- Alex (17 years old), Maddie and Gabe (13 year old twins). Some of Dr. Henner’s favorite pastimes include baseball, New York Yankees and New York Giants, craft IPAs, fantasy baseball and football, and the Grateful Dead.

Dawn Edwards

Kidney Patient Advisory Council

Self-described 33 Year Chronic Kidney Disease Warrior, Dawn P. Edwards has experienced first-hand every renal replacement modality including a kidney transplant and rejection. She is currently a Nocturnal Home Hemodialysis patient and pursuing a second transplant. As a result, she has a plethora of insight into the needs of people with Chronic Kidney Disease, always keeping in mind that patients need different things at different times in their lives. Dawn is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with kidney disease, and is also a resource to her community, sharing her story and educating people about the relationship between hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease, especially among the underserved and communities of color. Dawn has served the community for over 25 years with and is currently on the Board of Directors for the IPRO ESRD Network of New York. She serves on many other kidney disease related boards and has reinvented herself by working as a Patient Advocate for Fresenius/NxStage and a Wellness Ambassador for the Rogosin Institute. Dawn is also the Co- Chairperson of the Forum of ESRD Networks Patient Advisory Council (KPAC), Board of Directors member for Home Dialyzors United (HDU), is actively involved with the National Kidney Foundation, American Kidney Fund and American Association of Kidney Patients, serves as Patient Advisor for the HOPE study, as well as the Community Advisory Board in the HEAL study with the NIH/NIDDK, is a member of the Health Equity/Health Disparities Workgroup, serves on the NIH-NIDDK Advisory Council, and is the CEO of her own Advocacy and Education Organization, the New York State CKD Champions, whose motto is to Educate, Encourage and Empower. Dawn has been published in the January 2021 issue of Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) titled, Personal Experiences of Patients in the Interaction of Culture and Kidney Disease and 5 other white papers in Nephrology journals.

Victoria Cash, MBA, BSN, RN, CPHQ

Ms. Cash holds a Master's in Business, a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality. She has been providing Nephrology Nursing leadership in quality improvement and operational management for the ESRD population for greater than 30 years. Her experience spans management of hospital based programs, outpatient centers, and home programs both nationally and across multi state regions. She currently is the Executive Director of IPRO's ESRD Network 9 and leads the quality improvement activities outlined by CMS across the 13 states in which IPRO has an ESRD Network. She is the Past Chair of the ESRD Forum Executive Director Adviosry Council and now serves as a Member at Large for the Forum. Her passion is and always will be to improve the quality of life for those living with kidney disease.

Preethi Yerram, MD, MS

Professor of Medicine

University of Missouri-Columbia

Dr. Yerram is a board-certified nephrologist and a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN) - a distinction offered to nephrologists that have demonstrated excellence and dedication to the field of Nephrology. Dr. Yerram is currently working as a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Missouri - Columbia, and a Staff Nephrologist at the Harry S Truman Veterans Administration Hospital where she cares for patients with several forms of kidney disease. She also serves as the primary transplant physician for the University of Missouri Health Care's Kidney Transplant Program and has oversight of the clinical and administrative aspects of kidney transplant program. In her previous roles as medical director for home/transitional care units as well as acute dialysis units in Columbia, MO, she amassed vast experience in regulatory affairs relating to dialysis-unit medical directorship. She is also actively engaged in the ESRD network activities and advocacy, and currently serves as Chair of the medical advisory council (MAC) of the National Forum of ESRD Networks. She is also the past chair of the Missouri Kidney Program's advisory council. In addition, she serves as the lead facilitator for the Missouri Telehealth Network's ‘Kidney disease ECHO', a telehealth educational initiative whose goal is to educate, and empower rural primary care providers to better diagnose and manage chronic kidney disease. In her multiple roles, Dr. Yerram's focus is on improving the care of patients with kidney disease.
