In this webinar we will discuss the timeline of events related to a temporary dialysis unit closure and relocation as a result of flooding. We will go through the decision making process for determining whether to relocate services, which type of dialysis and water room equipment to use, and space considerations. We will share some of the tools that were developed to help track needed workflows during a crisis. We will share lessons learned from both our incenter and home dialysis staff. And lastly, we will discuss CMS guidance and regulation related to temporary relocations vs SPDF. Preparation is key so you will be ready when the unthinkable happens!

Becky Berg is a native of North Dakota and is currently living in Thief River Falls MN. She has 3 very active kids who keep her busy year round. She has worked as a dialysis floor nurse, charge nurse, unit manager and now regional Dialysis Director for Sanford Health. She is currently co-chair of both the Education and Quality Committees. She created the 2018 version of the RHA QAPI tool and is currently working with a Task Force to create an updated tool. She joined the RHA Board of Directors last fall.

Alisha Thiel has been in dialysis since 2008. She started out as an LPN in dialysis, transitioned to RN, worked as Charge RN and Home Dialysis RN. Alisha became a facility administrator at a Hemodialysis unit and eventually found her way to Home Dialysis Manager at Sanford Health. She currently manages four home dialysis units. She graduated in 2020 with her Master of Nursing and finally became certified in dialysis in January 2022. She has helped open a Transitional Care Unit within one of the dialysis units in Fargo. Alisha also has help create a program called Welcome Home Kidney Care that educates CKD 4 patients on Peritoneal Dialysis, Home Hemodialysis and Transplant and help add Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis to the Fargo Home Unit.
